TOUCHING THE EAGLES

PART TWO

ACROSS NINE STATES IN NINE DAYS

Day Thirteen - August 13, 1986 - From Colorado to New Mexico

Go to the Restaurant Early
I was to meet Robert at the restaurant at 9 A.M. I awoke at 7 AM and meditated for some time before getting out of bed. In my meditation I was told by the guides to go to the restaurant earlier to make a contact with one of the waitresses prior to meeting with Robert. I was also shown a mental picture of Robert entering the restaurant. This was shown to me so that I would know him instantly when he entered the restaurant.

Arriving at the restaurant shortly after m8 A.M. I sat down in one of the booths. Upon sitting down I sensed I was seated in the wrong section to make my contact. So the guides escorted me to the proper section of the restaurant.

"Thank you very much," I said to the unseen guides.

Becky, age twenty-three, was the waitress in the section where I was now seated. The guides confirmed she was to be my contact. I talked with Becky, a very pleasant and friendly young lady. All the staff in the restaurant were very friendly to the customers and to each other as well.

"Are you on a Pilgrimage?"
As soon as Robert walked into the restaurant I knew him from the picture the guides flashed in my mind. To his surprise I went right over and greeted him as though he were a long time friend. He questioned me about how I got his name and what this was all about.

We spent one hour together getting to know each other. Robert is the head chef at one of the large hotel chains in North America. The company was planning on opening up a large hotel in British Columbia.

Robert, age thirty-three, is married to Camille and they have a sixteen month old son. He was from Indianapolis, Indiana and has a twin brother Steve living there.

"Are you on a pilgrimage," Robert asked me as I related part of my story of travelling and writing.

"I never looked at it that way before. But perhaps I am." I replied.

Welcome to the Mile High City
At 10:33 A.M. precisely I passed a sign on the highway going through Denver which read "Elevation 5280 Feet". I had heard that Denver was referred to as 'the mile high city'> but it had not occurred to me that Denver was exactly one mile in elevation. Cheyenne to the north has a high elevation and Colorado Springs to the south has an elevation of 6035 feet. Denver actually has one of the lowest elevations of all the places along the highway.

And A Small Boy Shall Lead Them
South of Colorado Springs I glanced at the reading of kilometers driven on my car. The reading was 33833 kilometers.

The guides spoke again. "When the number reaches 33933 you are to pull off at the exit following".

"This will be interesting." I thought.

I travelled on with excitement wondering what would happen at my next stop. Reaching the 33933 kilometer mark I found myself at Exit 99B and I exited into a beautiful park. I thought that this was really unbelievable; to be in such a beautiful park with flowers and a water pond with lillies and people picnicing nearby. Especially since there were bplenty of exits along this particular stretch of highway.

Later I learned the name of the town was Pueblo, Colorado and the park was called the Mineral Palace Gardens.

Upon parking my car I was told, "Take your norebook and sit at the picnic table near the water. We will send someone to you. Talk to the first person that comes along."

Following instructions I sat at the picnic table and waited. In a short time a small boy peddling a bicycle came along. We talked and I asked him what the name of the park was. He did not know. After I told him I was writing a book he told me about himself.

Eric, ten years old, was visiting his grandparents with his older brother Eddie. He told me he had no friends in Pueblo, just his brother, who was also riding his bicycle somewhere in the park. They were visiting from Pleasant Hope, Missouri. I thought the name Pleasant Hope was very fitting in view of the scenerio that led up to my meeting Eric.

I asked Eric if he would tell me a few things about himself for the book.

He replied, "I will be going into Grade 5 and I like baseball and basketball."

As he drove away on his bike the guides spoke to me.

"He will be a leader and a healer in his own right."

I spent some time at the park before leaving. I wondered how it could work out so exactly to be placed at Exit 99B when the number of kilometers on my car turned exactly to 33933. Then it occurred to me that for some then unknown reason I travelled approximately ten kilometers around Colorado Springs wondering why I was doing so.

Stopover at Wagon Mound
I continued my journey south and at 3 P.M. I left 'Colorful Colorado' and entered New Mexico. I stopped at Wagon Mound to gas up and was given a short history of the area by the lady at the filling station. She told me that she did not get many customers and enjoyed my visiting with her. She talked with pride of her son who was an officer in the military.

She told me that Wagon Mound was preserved as a registered historical landmark of the Santa Fe Trial Early travellers thought the nearby mountain resembled a wagon bearing southwest with yokes of oxen lumbering over the horizon.

You Will Get Your Seafood
As I was travelling past Albuquerque I began to get hungry, since I had not eaten since breakfast, I enjoy seafood, it being my favorite food. I was born and raised in Nova Scotia where seafood was plebtiful. I stopped at two restaurants along the highway and neither served seafood so I continued on and the more I thought of seafood, the more I wanted it. The guides came to my rescue.

"You will get your seafood." I was told.

I drove on for more than an hour before I saw a sign along the highway which read '4 B's Restaurant. We Specialize in Seafood'> Made to order.

I went in and sat down. As the waitress came toward me the guides informed me. "Her name is Debbie, talk to her".

The waitress was not wearing a name tag and I asked her. "Is your name Debbie?"

"Yes, but I like to be called Debra", she replied.

Debra recommended the shrimp dinner plus the salad bar and I enjoyed twenty fresh and delicious shrimp on a plate. As I was eating I thanked Debra and silently thanked the guides for the seafood.

Sleep in New Mexico Tonight
Leaving the restaurant I went right to my car and turned on the igbition and looked at the clock. It was 9:33 P.M. Sitting in the car I pondered on how far I should drive tonight. I was 82 miles from the Arizona border so I thought I woild drive into Arizona and spend the night there.

The guides spoke to me again.

"We don't want you to go into Arizona tonight. Go to the next KOA Campground and spend the night there"

Following instructions I got back on the highway wondering if I would find a KOA before entering Arizona.

Driving along I was told by the guides there were several reasons they wanted me to stay in New Mexico for the night. One reason had to do with making another contact in the morning. Another reason was something about balancing my energies by sleeping in New Mexico that night rather than continuing on into Arizona.

I arrived at the KOA Campgrounds at Exit 63 being another confirmation to me that I was to stay there for the night. I was assigned to Site Number 21 for the night.
