Who we are (and more!)
The participants in the Peace in Paper project are people, probably very much like you, from all around the globe, of many ages, many nationalities, and many beliefs. We all share two things in common which make this project possible: a love of working with paper, and a great desire for world peace.
Most of us found one another through various email lists and clubs devoted to our mutual hobby of modeling things from card stock, and we often found ourselves discussing things not directly related to paper, but to world affairs and the violence taking place everywhere we turn.
It was suggested that we attempt to do something to help.
After much discussion, it was decided that those who wished to would design simple models of a decorative nature, representing themes of peace, harmony, and traditional holiday symbols, which could be hung together on a "Tree of Peace," similar to a Christmas tree. We would try to all have our models and ornaments finished and ready for building in time for the December 2001/January 2002 holiday season. We managed fourteen models and ornaments in the intended period, but we don't want to stop there!
Due to circumstances beyond our control, our original Web site, hosted by Marcelo Bicalho in Brazil, is no more. Now, as this Phoenix rises from its ashes, it is October of 2002, and a new holiday season is rapidly approaching. We need more models and ornaments to add to the collection!
We are truly an international group with many differences, but we manage to enjoy our hobby and one another with very little friction. We believe that, given the chance, and maybe a push in the right direction, everyone in the world could do the same.
Won't you join us?
Take a look at the models and ornaments we are offering. Download any or all of them, print them, build them, hang them on your own tree, or give them to people around you and explain what they mean and where they came from.
Or try your hand at designing one, or two, or ten! If you would like to add your designs to our project, just email us, and we will send you some simple guidelines to follow.
In the meantime, thank you for taking the time to learn what we are all about:
Peace.
