Please read ALL of these instructions before beginning. This is a 1:1 scale model of a "Commlock" from the television series "Space: 1999," simplified somewhat in order to reduce the part count and fit everything onto two pages of paper. The model is intended to print at 7.5 inches by 10 inches (190.5mm x 254mm), so it should print correctly on US Letter or A4 size sheets of 90 lb (165 gram per square meter) index card by centering the image on the page, preserving the aspect ratio, and setting the image width to 7.5 inches (190.5 mm). The finished scale model is about 7 inches (178 mm) long. Assembly is straightforward. The arrows indicate less obvious score lines. All folds are peak folds (away from the printed side). 1. Cut out part 1. Note that the tab on part 1 does not extend all the way to one end; this end is the BOTTOM of part 1. Form part 1 into a cylinder with the printed side out and glue the tab to the inside. 2. Score the tabs on part 2 and cut it out. Bend all the tabs 90 degrees. Insert the tabs into the TOP end of part 1 and glue flush. 3. Cut out part 3. Form part 3 into a cylinder and glue inside the BOTTOM of part 1 by half its width, and with its seam opposite the seam of part 1. Use the lines on part 3 to guide alignment. 4. Cut out part 4. Wrap part 4 around part 3 with the printed side out, flush against the BOTTOM of part 1, and with its seam aligned with the seam of part 1 (opposite the seam of part 3), and glue into place. 5. Cut out part 5. Apply a tiny bead of glue to the edge of part 3 inside part 4. Set part 5 into part 4 with the printed side facing out, snug against part 3. 6. Cut out part 6. Form part 6 into a cylinder with the printed side in. Glue part 6 into part 4, flush against part 5. Trim any excess of part 4 or part 6 which protrudes beyond the other. 7. Score and cut out part 7. Form part 7 into a cube and glue at all tabs. 8. Score and cut out part 12. Form part 12 into a square frame and glue at the end tab. Glue the tabs on one side of part 12 to the indicated location on part 7. 9. Align the black stripes on part 1 with those on part 7 and glue part 2 to the indicated location. 10. Cut out parts 8, 9, 10, and 11 one at a time and glue them to the indicated locations on part 7. These parts are oriented on the sheet as they should be placed on part 7. 11. Score and cut out part 13. Form part 13 into a rectangular box and glue at all tabs. 12. Score and cut out part 28. Form part 28 into a rectangular frame and glue at the end tab. Glue the tabs on one side of part 28 to the indicated location on part 13. 13. Cut out parts 14 through 27 one at a time and glue them to the indicated locations on part 13. These parts are oriented on the sheet as they should be placed on part 13. 14. **OPTIONAL** Customize part 13a with your own name, photo, and color tabs, and glue it over the appropriate side of part 13. 15. Note the red asterisks on parts 7 and 13. These indicate the FACE of each part, and should be aligned when assemblies are connected. 16. Connect the assembly from step 10 to the assembly from step 14 by gluing part 12 to part 13 at the indicated location. 17. Score and cut out part 29. Form part 29 into a rectangular box and glue at all tabs. 18. Cut out parts 30 through 37 one at a time and glue them to the indicated locations on part 29. These parts are oriented on the sheet as they should be placed on part 29. 19. Note the red asterisks on parts 13 and 29. These indicate the FACE of each part, and should be aligned when assemblies are connected. 20. Connect the assembly from step 16 to the assembly from step 18 by gluing part 28 to part 29 at the indicated location. 21. Score and cut out part 38. Fold the three large flaps of part 38 over and glue the unprinted sides together. Fold the assembly into a "U" shape, and fold the small end tabs inward. 22. Note that one half of part 39 is shorter than the other. This is the INSIDE of part 39. Fold part 39 over the two small end tabs of part 38 and glue the unprinted sides of part 39 together, with the INSIDE half toward the inside of the assembly. 23. Note that one side of the assembly from step 22 is wider than the other. This side is the TOP of the assembly. 24. Hold the assembly from step 20 so that the "LUNAR TIME" display is rightside up. Glue the assembly from step 22 onto the face of part 29 around the "LUNAR TIME" display in the indicated location with the TOP of the assembly from step 22 at the top of the "LUNAR TIME" display. 25. Score and cut out part 40. Form part 40 into a BELT CLIP. Glue part 40 to part 28 in the indicated location. It is recommended to use a strong adhesive for this part.
