Please read ALL of these instructions before beginning. This is an approximately 1:12 scale model of "Red Robot #C-63" from the Web comic "diesel sweeties" (http://www.dieselsweeties.com/). The model is intended to be printed at 7.5 inches by 10 inches (190.5mm x 254mm), so it should print correctly on US Letter or A4 size sheets of 90 lb (165 gram per square meter) index card. The finished scale model is about 6 inches (152 mm) tall. Scoring is fairly obvious, but detailed instruction will be given where it is needed. All parts are labeled with their description. 1. Body Insert: Score along all lines and tabs, then remove the three empty circles completely, cutting just outside the lines. For the three circles with red lines, score along the circles and cut along all the red lines. Fold and glue the part into a closed box. Insert a pencil or similar probe through each of the three circles with the cut red lines to get the tabs "started." Set the part aside. 2. Body Bottom: Score all the tabs. Remove the two white ellipses completely. Fold the tabs away from the colored side of the part. Set the part aside. 3. Body: Score along all lines and tabs, then remove the three white circles completely. Fold the tabs away from the colored side of the part. Glue the tabs of one side of the Body Bottom to the uncolored side of one large flap of the Body. **DO NOT GLUE THE OTHER LARGE FLAP YET** Fold the two narrow flaps inward and glue the tabs to the Body Bottom and Body. 4. Shoulders: Score the six rectangular tabs on each Shoulder, then roll each Shoulder into a cylinder and glue at the remaining tab. Be careful not to let the cylinder become oversized (slightly undersized is okay). Insert one Shoulder through each of the two holes on the sides of the Body from the inside. Fold the rectangular tabs outward and glue them to the inside of the sides of the Body. 5. Body Insert (continued): Note the "Top" mark on the Body Insert. Orient this side toward the top of the Body (away from the Body Bottom), place the Body Insert approximately in the middle of the Body and glue it into place. The side of the Body Insert with two sets of cut red lines should face the Body Bottom. Now fold the other large flap of the Body down and glue it in place. 6. Head Insert: Score along all lines and tabs, then remove the empty circle completely, cutting just outside the line. For the circle with red lines, score along the circle and cut along all the red lines. Fold and glue the part into a closed box. Insert a pencil or similar probe through the circle with the cut red lines to get the tabs "started." Set the part aside. 7. Head: Score along all lines and tabs, then remove the white ellipse completely. Fold up and glue all the tabs and flaps **EXCEPT THE LARGE FLAP WITH NO TABS** 8. Head Insert (continued): Note the "Top" mark on the Head Insert. Orient this side toward the top of the Head (away from the elliptical hole), place the Head Insert approximately in the middle of the Head and glue it into place. The side of the Head Insert with the cut red lines should face the elliptical hole. Now fold the large flap down and glue it in place. 9. Neck: Roll the Neck into a cylinder and glue at the tab. Be careful not to let the cylinder become oversized (slightly undersized is okay). Once the Neck is dry, insert it into the hole at the top of the Body, with a gentle twisting motion to work it through the tabs of the Body Insert, until it rests against the Body Bottom inside the Body. 10. Head (continued): Fit the hole in the bottom of the Head over the top of the Neck, with a gentle twisting motion to work the Neck through the tabs of the Head Insert, until the Neck rests against the inside top of the Head. There should be a gap of about 1/4 inch between the bottom of the Head and the top of the Body. 11. Legs: Roll the Legs into cylinders and glue at the tabs. Be careful not to let the cylinders become oversized (slightly undersized is okay). Once the Legs are dry, insert them into the holes in the Body Bottom, with a gentle twisting motion to work them through the tabs of the Body Insert, until they rest against the inside top of the Body. About two inches of each Leg should extend from the Body Bottom. 12. Feet: Score only the two rectangular tabs on each Foot. Fold the tabs away from the colored sides of the oblongs. Fold the remainder of each Foot away from the colored sides of the oblongs, then curl them around and glue them to the rectangular tabs. Continue curling the parts around and glue them shut at the remaining tabs. The finished Feet resemble little doll shoes, or Chinese bound-foot shoes. Fit one Foot over each Leg until the Legs bottom inside the Feet and glue in place, making sure that the soles of the Feet are flat (perpendicular to the Legs) so that the model will stand upright. 13. Arms: Score the eight triangular tabs at one end and the two small tabs in the notches of each Arm. Carefully, so as to not break the part in two, roll each Arm into a cylinder with a notch in it, and glue at the two side tabs. When the glue is set, fold the two tabs in the notch of each Arm out, then gently bend the Arm in and over the two tabs and glue in place. Use a dowel or other tool inside the upper Arms to apply pressure to the tabs. Note that the angle of the Arms is a bit wider than ninety degrees. 14. Hands: Score each Hand on the four straight lines only. Cut out each Hand and its red disc. Turn the discs over so the colored side is down, and glue each Hand, with its colored side up, to a disc. Fold the four narrow flaps on each hand away from the colored side and glue flat to the uncolored side. Gently fold the two doubled ends of each Hand away from the colored side to about ninety degrees. Glue the uncolored circle of each Hand to the tabs at the end of an Arm with the two "claws" in line with the elbow and upper Arm. 15. Arms (continued): Carefully fit each upper Arm over one of the Shoulders; it should fit snugly enough not to move on its own, but should still be removable. If the fit is too tight, cut the Shoulder from its end to the Body, squeeze it gently and try the fit again. If the fit is too loose, wrap the Shoulder with a layer or two of transparent tape and try the fit again. Red Robot's Arms should be either both straight up (angry/excited), or both straight down (calm); the choice is yours. Your Red Robot #C-63 model is complete! Take a photo and send it to R.
