A Convair B-36 Civilian Flight Test Crew's Experience

I am Don Maxion.  When I started writing these remembrances in 1998 I was 72 years old.  When l was in my 20s, l was a Flight Engineer for Convair as part of a crew of eight that was involved with ground & flight testing the B-36 as well as a number of other Convair aircraft.

While most of my career was working for General Dynamics Convair on contract to the Air Force, I was on the USS Adirondack during W.W.II. This was the flagship of the third fleet.

Of course during my experience I, like many others in the program, had some interesting experiences. These are some of my Flight Engineering experiences.

The purpose of this site is to provide a small part of the history of the Convair B-36 Flight Test program that took place in the early 1950s in San Diego, California. It is also to remember the flight test crew that I was fortunate to be a part of.

I was not involved with explosive decompressions at 40,000 feet that other Flight Engineers experienced, but that is another story.
